It was like homecoming week for Steve Spangler who returned to the Cherry Creek School District in Centennial, Colorado where he got his start as an elementary teacher. The focus today was on exploring strategies and best practices that before and after school staff can use to ignite even more excited about STEM. Over 70,000 children K-8 participate in the school district’s before and after school programs.
“Our before and after school programs are a great touch point for kids when it comes to STEM,” said Sarah Conley, Extended Child Services coordinator for Cherry Creek Schools. “Spending the day with Steve Spangler was exactly what we needed to recharge our batteries and get our staff thinking about creative ways to make STEM even more exciting for the children we service.”
Spangler and his instructional team featured their STEM Boot Camp experience for nearly 300 ECS staff members who attended the full-day professional development.
