Pershing Elementary Wins CITGO Fueling Education Visit from Steve Spangler

What are the chances that a first year teacher would win a huge sweepstakes prize for her school? Courtney Voogt did it… and this smile stayed on her face the entire day. Courtney entered the CITGO Fueling Education Sweepstakes for a chance to win a full-day professional development science workshop from Steve Spangler and his team, plus a $5,000 gift certificate for school supplies. It’s all part of CITGO’s Fueling Education initiative to support classroom teachers who are making a difference.
Teachers from Pershing Elementary and others from the Joliet Public School District 86 joined Courtney for a day of building connections between science concepts, hands-on experiences and real-world applications.
“The best part of the day is watching teachers become the students as they conduct their own experiments and make their own discoveries,” said Steve Spangler who shares his Hands-on Science Boot Camp experience with more than 20,000 educators in school districts throughout the country each year. “My job is to start by creating an unforgettable learning experience for the teacher and to unleash their own passion for making science fun for their students.”
