STEM Educator in Residence – High Point University

Steve Spangler Mentors HPU Students Who Seek STEM Careers

Last week, I was excited to visit High Point University in my new role as their STEM Educator in Residence, a position that gives me the opportunity to work with students and faculty to mentor future educators, aspiring scientists and engineers, and others who might be interested in STEM-based careers.

A few of the highlights of my visit meeting with faculty from the School of Natural Sciences and the School of Education, presenting lectures on the Science of Engagement and Science Communications, answering questions about my work as a STEM educator on the university’s popular podcast, and getting a chance to spend some one-on-one time with students who are pursuing careers in education, medicine, physics, and environmental science.

The students I met impressed me so much with their obvious passion for their areas of study and their ability to demonstrate high-level thinking that reflects their commitment to the education they are receiving from the inspiring people that make up High Point University.
