Creating a New Mindset – Steve Spangler’s STEM Conference
STEM isn’t just about the obvious – science, technology, engineering and math… it’s about creating opportunity for children to think […]
If you ask a STEM teacher to share a few of their favorite podcasts, Science is Cool (ScIC) is probably one of their top 3. The podcast creator and host, Dave Bakker, has a knack for attracting interesting science educators and enthusiasts who can’t wait to share their stories, ideas and resources with you and your students.
PocketLab hosted ScIC11 from the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, Texas, earlier this week, and I was honored to join a really fun line-up of guests including Joe Hanson, creator and host of the YouTube series “Be Smart”, Chris Kesler, founder of Kesler Science, Tony Derose from PIXAR, Miles O’Brien, science correspondent, and many more.
During a normal day, the PEROT Museum of Science in Dallas, Texas is the gathering place for thousands of young scientists who are on a mission to explore every nook and cranny of this gorgeous experiential learning lab. Last night, the museum hosted a special meeting of Dallas area STEM educators, school district administrators, learning coaches, curriculum writers and STEM specialists who came together for an inspiring evening of science entertainment and education. My thanks to Houghton Mufflin HALAK, PocketLab and the Science Teachers Association of Texas for hosting the event and inviting me to kick off the night with some science fun.
During the evening event, Joe Hanson, creator and host of “Be Smart” moderated a panel of distinguished educators (Kiki Corry, Kenric Davies, LaTasha Murry and Michael Ruiz) who shared their unique insights on the exciting future of STEM education in Texas. The audience of educators was also treated to a sneak peek of NOVA’s “Chasing Carbon Zero” from producer, director Miles O’Brien who shared wonderful stories and insights into his hopeful outlook for the planet over the next 30 years.
Don’t miss out on ScIC12, the next virtual unconference for cool teachers, on Thursday, August 3, 2023 starting at 9 AM PT. Register at https://www.thepocketlab.com/events/scic12.
