Steve Spangler has been known to say that anything worth doing is worth overdoing. That’s exactly what happens when you attend one of his summer STEM conferences. Steve replaces the traditional marshmallows and toothpicks with giant bags filled with air to construct life-size structures.

“At the end of the day, it’s all about finding the most creative ways to get our students engaged in their own learning,” according to Steve Spangler, a science educator turned national STEM advocate. “The goal of this workshop experience is for teachers to get the opportunity to rediscover their ‘why’ and rekindle their child-like enthusiasm to wonder, discover, and explore.”

Science in the Rockies is a 3-day teacher professional development event designed to showcase best practices and teaching strategies to help early childhood through high school educators build meaningful connections with their students.

“Without seeming too simple, our primary job is to create experiences that make our students fall in love with science and help them see themselves in a future STEM-based career,” says Spangler right before a few thousand ping pong balls fall from the ceiling.

That’s just what happens at a Steve Spangler event.
