Creating a New Mindset – Steve Spangler’s STEM Conference
STEM isn’t just about the obvious – science, technology, engineering and math… it’s about creating opportunity for children to think […]
Columbus, Ohio – Over 350 of the state’s top educators came together to recognize and celebrate the STEM educators, leaders, and partners who exemplify STEM practices that inspire students and grow Ohio’s future. The Ohio STEM Learning Network is a public partnership between the Ohio Department of Education and Battelle, a non-profit research institute.
My sincere appreciation goes out to Wes Hall, Kelly Gaier Evans, Ifrah Aliawl, Sandy Guinto, Sandra Wilder, Anna Pyles, Rob Evans and the other leadership team members at Battelle Education for inviting me to help kick off the conference with my Best Day Ever keynote presentation. One of the conference highlights for me was watching the audience connect and engage with each other as they used the Energy Stick along with the elements of STEM (communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity) to turn a room of educators into a human conductor of electricity.
After the morning keynote, conference attendees participated in a wide range of breakout sessions with topics that included STEM Culture for Learning, Engaging Underrepresented Groups in STEM, Best Practices in STEM Learning and Teaching, Computer Science and Computational Thinking, STEM Career Awareness, and Building Strong Community and Industry Partnerships.
